What is Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS)?

A small implantable device delivers gentle electrical impulses to the spinal cord to block pain signals — think of it as a "smart pacemaker for pain". This advanced treatment is reversible and programmable to your specific pain patterns.

  • Trial first — wear a temporary stimulator for 5–7 days
  • Minimally invasive implantation if trial succeeds
  • Device is adjustable and reversible

Who Can Benefit from Spinal Cord Stimulation?

Spinal cord stimulation is often recommended when traditional treatments like injections, medications, or physical therapy provide only temporary relief. Common conditions we treat include:

  • Failed Back Surgery Syndrome (FBSS)
  • Chronic nerve pain in legs, feet, or arms
  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
  • Diabetic neuropathy or peripheral nerve pain
  • Chronic Intractable Back and/or Leg Pain
  • Chronic Intractable Neck and/or Arm Pain
  • Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD) & Ischemic Limb Pain
  • Painful Diabetic Neuropathy (PDN)
  • Angina Refractory to Medical & Surgical Therapy
  • Neuropathic Pain After Spinal Cord Injury
  • Post-Herpetic Neuralgia (PHN)
  • Peripheral Nerve Injury / Entrapment Neuropathy

The Two-Step Spinal Cord Stimulation Process

1
Trial Phase

Outpatient procedure with temporary leads placed percutaneously using a small needle. No incision is made. An external stimulator is worn for 5–7 days to assess pain relief and functional improvement.

Many patients report 50–80% pain reduction and noticeable activity improvement during the trial.

2
Permanent Implant

If the trial is successful, a small pulse generator is implanted under the skin. Procedure ~1 hour, most patients go home same day.

Wireless remotes and programmable settings let you tailor relief at home.
